Porn & Gambling

Are any other bloggers out there getting this email these days? At first glance there's a moment of "hmm, that's interesting... then followed by... "Really? C'mon!"

Anyway.. I was just wondering who else was getting these.

(it reads:)
Dear Ms Goofy Girl,
My name is Sarah from Article Writing Services. We have a client who would like to pay you for the opportunity to post some of their content on your website. All of the content is professionally produced and you can select from pieces relevant to your audience.
The result is you get some free, interesting content for your readers while getting paid.
In return our client is asking for one link that they specify at the bottom of the content (no porn or gambling). Feel free to contact me with any concerns or clarifications you may have.
If you would like to see some examples of our content, please email me at sarah@article-writing-services.org so we can begin.
Sincerely,
Sarah Miller

I have to be honest, I sort of want to write back.... that seems to be a theme of mine when it comes to ridiculous spam. I'd do the same with snail mail too. I'd use all the envelopes with postage paid and stuff them full of other junk mail to return to sender. I'm sure it did nothing but crack me up... but, then that makes it totally worth it!

Maybe I'll just send a quick reply?....

Dear Sarah- Thank you for your generous offer. You had me right up until your caveat of "no porn or gambling." It's what pretty much killed it for you.  "Free, interesting content" for my readers... but no porn or gambling? I think that might be downright impossible, but feel free to send me some of your writing samples to review and I will let you know if you're worthy of being an addition to my blog, I should warn you though... it'll cost you.  I do need a new car. I suggest, in the meantime, that you have your client brush up on their porn and gambling writing, they are missing out on a huge chunk of the blog market. I don't know about you, but not a day has gone by, since I obtained a laptop & wifi, that my morning routine didn't include a bit of porn and some quick gambling before I left for the day to hide from the bill collectors.
Quite Insincerely- Ms Goofy Girl
PS. Might I also suggest looking into trying to amp up the name of your business? "Article Writing Services", while quite blunt... is really also quite lame, and the acronym for it just leaves one with the sound made upon realizing that no porn or poker will be a part of the deal... just a bunch of "aws."

I also dug through my 'puter and found this screen shot of an old spam email that had me giggling for a bit. I do suggest you try this once in a while, it's more than a little fun...even if just for you :)

  1. I've heard of them. Basically they want to use your reputation to pimp their advertisers. They turn your blog into a paid billboard.

  5. Hi. Found your blog during a search on Ms. Miller at AWS - for I too have received this intriguing email. Think I'll give it a pass. Thanks for sharing, and nice blog.

  6. @Rimpy- yeah... apparently just about everyone is gettin' these as of late. It would be interesting to see who falls for it, but I hope no one does.

  7. I don't read anything unless I'm GUARANTEED to have a little porn or gambling in it.

  8. I got this email too. That's how I found your blog. I did a search to see if I could get to the bottom of it. Looks like there are a lot of people getting it. I like your idea of writing back. You'll have to do an update if you get any response after that!

  9. Lol, you're so cool. You actually answer to the spam mail, how cool is that?! I really like your answer to Sarah, I'm sure she'll like it too :)

  10. i got this email today. I told Sarah " No porn, no gambling? That's all that my readers are interested in! "

  11. Cake Betch- well duh!

Hannah- I came VERY close to sending that letter... very close :)

Starlight- Maybe we could all, as bloggers, start creating form letters to send back to these creeps that send spam? I call dibs on the dude that guarantees me my wealth will exceed my dreams if I just wire him a few thousand dollars to get things started. It's a personal favorite.

    Lesley- Who isn't?! :)

  12. I got the exact email in tonight and it certainly smells like a scam to me...BTW, I also found your blog checking out the Article Writing Services and the elusive Sarah Miller. Guess there's a place side to junk mail.

  13. Alan- I was honestly a bit shocked that no other bloggers had posted anything about this hunk-o-spam that has been circulating among us. I just figured it was worth a post, 'cause I couldn't possibly be the only one to get the email, google the company, and then wonder what kind of crazy scam it was (& who else had been hit with it.)
Sorry you were hit with it too, but it does remind a person how nice it fees to click "delete" doesn't it?

Thanks for visiting, hope you stop back. ♥

  14. I definitely just found your blog through a google search for 'articlewritingservices.org scam' after receiving and email from them today.

And might I say, you are hilarious.

Back to the email though: mine actually wasn't from Sarah Miller. Mine is from Jordan Fisher. But I went to their website and it looks sketch, in that it totally lacks content.

    ReplyDelete
  15. KB- THANKS FOR STOPPING BY!
YEAH, I'VE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF EMAILS FROM THAT SKETCHY COMPANY... NONE FROM JORDAN YET. SHOULD I FEEL HURT? MAYBE I'LL WRITE A LETTER TO HIM NEXT? :)

  16. Maybe I will also pay more attention when I am typing and not leave the cap lock on...though.. looking like a totally angry, yelling, lunatic can be kind of amusing too :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Thanks for that - I got it too and so did some googling! Glad to have found yo and thanks for posting on it!

Am currently in email conversations with "Jordan" from the same company, wondering how it will proceed!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. hi, I just got this one too. It's from Jordan. LOL
thank you for posting this too. Otherwise I might have fallen for it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey, I heard from Jordan and Erin, posted 3 of their links on 2 blogs, and was paid $30. It was fairly painless.
    Not a scam, thank goodness.
    Anita

  20. Jordan posted me an email ...after googling ... I'll sidestep any further involvement.

  21. I was leery too but decided to try it out and see if it was legit. I've had real e-mail conversations and exchanges about the process with the service.

I just posted my first article from them yesterday and already got paid (via Paypal) http://www.tinseltine.com/2011/03/best-book-to-film-adaptations.html

I like the article they sent. I've had guest bloggers send me similar posts and don't get anything but content. The two links that they advertise in the post went to legitimate commercial sites. I added the Amazon links myself (figure, kill two birds with one stone).

Anyway, just thought I chime in and say if it is a scam, I haven't seen evidence of it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I never thought it was a scam, as much as I just thought it was lame. I think it's fantastic that it worked out for you, and you made $ off them ... but I just hate the idea that a bunch of people would give up their blogs/reputations as bloggers to someone for some quick cash. I know that sounds bad, like I'm making fun of you, but I'm not. I think it's awesome you scored $$ off them, someone's gotta!
Guess I'm a "blog purest"... I can't imagine using my blog for anything other than... well... what it's used for. Just my writing and the sharing of thoughts and ideas among "friends." Guess if I fell on harder times (though, I don't wanna think they could get harder than they are right now!) I might consider it. Never say never, right? :)

  23. Received my first email yesterday, word-for-word to yours, except that mine came from Erin Wallace. Did some research and came across your post. Thanks for spreading the word. I am currently emailing with her to see how far it'll go.

  24. I got Sarah Miller too, but she wants to pay me for stuff I have already written...I wrote back..I always do this to good spam. I even had a little post about it all here in my old (now defunct) blog: http://gmanvox.wordpress.com/2010/02/17/geeks-on-steroids-are-colombian-scammers/
I think I will string sarah along for a bit...

  25. lol, i received this too! and i am a fake person writing about virtual worlds

i think i'll wait to see how my money from Uganda is coming along first! =D

  26. thanks for sharing this- II had e-mailed my friend who is very tech savvy and gets lots of promos to see if it was legit and she shared this link to your site about the same exact e-mail. I agree- they might pay you- its not a scam in that sense but is it worth selling your soul for $10-30? I mean $60, maybe, but $30? Nah. lol ;)

  27. I got the same invite from Sarah this morning. Maybe we should be flattered that we're big enough to be on their radar? The best part though was finding birds of a feather here.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I received this email too, only she said the "client" will pay me for an entry that I've already written! I even replied to her, asking what entry that was. But then I made some searching for her and this was one of the many articles and comment threads that I found. And I'm not even big on blogging so I don't understand why they'd want to use my blog for their ads.

    ReplyDelete
  29. yep.. I too have received this. Of course, I *had* to reply, It just wouldn't be fair to not flood their mailbox with replies to their spams... Kind of like putting telemarketers on hold. lol!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yep I got a very similar one... what a joke!

  31. I remember being contacted a while ago by a company that is offering marketing services to non profits. It wasn't free and they seemed legit, but one of the things they were doing was "Social media activism" via Facebook and blogging and I remember thinking how do you pay for somethin that is free.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I got similar email too from Christi and i replied to her. she gave me 2 links to add to one of my post and get $20.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I got the same, and thought it is serious. Thanks for your help on this!
